The First Chakra – Muladhara, Root or Base

  • The Muladhara chakra also know as the root chakra is located at the base of the spine. This chakra is associated with the element of earth, the color red and the sound LAM.
  • The predominate energy of this chakra is support and grounding. It is the root chakra that connects us with the physical world and with our “tribe”.
  • When this chakra is balanced one tends to feel supported, accepted, and grounded. The individual does not act with selfishness or greed, rather they feel a deeper connection to the environment and to humanity.
  • When this chakra is out of balance one can feel disconnected from others, scattered, and overcome by emotions and addictions.

The Second Chakra – Svadhistana or Sacral

  • The Svadhisthana chakra or as I like to call it the “Sexy Chakra” is located at the sacral area of the spine. This chakra is associated with the element of water, the color orange and the sound VAM.
  • The predominate energy of this chakra is expression of sexuality, creativity, and emotions.
  • When this chakra is balanced one tends to feel healthy sexual, creative, and emotional energy flowing freely, feel friendly to self and others, and have clarity of ones intentions and desires.
  • When this chakra is out of balance one can experience excessive or depleted sexual, creative, or emotional energy. This can lead to blocked energy and health concerns in the ovaries, bladder, prostate, uterus, and colon.

The Third Chakra – Manipura, Power Center or Solar Plexus

  • The Manipura Chakra is located at the solar plexus between the heart and the naval. This chakra is associated with the element of fire, the color yellow and the sound RAM.
  • The predominate energy of this Chakra is expression of power, strength, and discipline.
  • When this Chakra is balanced one tends to feel a connection to their inner and outer strength. This connection to strength provides the individual with the courage and discipline to step forward on their journey to fulfill their life purpose. Those with strong energy flow in the Manipura Chakra make good leaders and teachers.
  • Excessive energy in the Manipura can create aggressive and/or addictive behavior, and is connected with the emotions of anger, irritation and rage. Excessive energy in the Manipura can lead to dehydration, diarrhea, heartburn and increased risk of heart disease.
  • Depleted energy in the Manipura can create worry, doubt, and depression, and is connected with the emotions of fear, sadness and grief. Depleted energy in theManipura can lead to anxiety, constipation, and severe depression.

The Fourth Chakra – Anahata or Heart

  • The Anahata Chakra is located at the center of the chest. This Chakra is associated with the element of air, the colors green and pink, and the sound YAM.
  • The predominant energy of this Chakra is Unconditional Love, Compassion and Acceptance.
  •  When this Chakra is balanced, one tends to feel a deep connection to self and others. Those with strong energy flow in the Anahata Chakra are able to give and receive unconditional love with ease.
  • Letting go of grief, worry, anger and stress helps us to have a healthy heart.

The Fifth Chakra – Vishudda or Throat

  •  The Vishudda Chakra is located at the throat. This Chakra is associated with element of space, the color blue and the sound HAM.
  • This chakra is the source of expression and manifestation and is associated with communication.
  • When this chakra is balanced, one is able to hear, know and speak their truth with ease and peace. Because of its location, it’s said to be the bridge between the head and heart.
  • When this chakra is blocked, one may feel uncertain and find it hard to express words, thoughts and creativity.

The Sixth Chakra – The Ajna, Third Eye or Spiritual Eye

  • The Ajna Chakra is located at the center of the forehead in between the eyebrows and up about one inch. This chakra is associated with the element of light, the colors purple or indigo, and the sound SHAM.
  • The predominant energy of this chakra is inner wisdom; it is our intuitive center.
  • The pineal gland is associated with the Ajna Chakra. This gland has become known as the intuitive gland, which is activated by light and controls the bio-rhythms of the body. It works in harmony with the hypothalamus gland, which directs the body’s thirst, hunger, sexual desire and the biological clock that determines our aging process.
  • While the physiological function of the pineal gland had been unknown until recent times, mystical traditions and esoteric schools have long known this area in the middle of the brain to be the connecting link between the physical and spiritual worlds. Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the pineal gland has always been important in initiating spiritual powers.
  • Another interesting fact about the pineal gland is that over time it can become calcified by intake of fluoride from our water and toothpaste. The calcification of the pineal gland can create a disruption in the harmony between the pineal and pituitary gland, thus creating imbalances in our bio-rhythms. In addition, it seals us off from our inner wisdom and intuitive gifts.

The Seventh Chakra – The Crown

  • The Sahasrara Chakra is located at the crown of the head and is associated with the element of space, the colors violet or white, and the sound Aum. Its symbol is a thousand-petal lotus.
  • The seventh chakra relates to spiritual enlightenment, self-realization and a sense of Oneness. When this chakra is open and balanced, we can access a blissful sense of Divine Unity, we attain inner peace, and we are aware of our connection with all other living things.
  • On the other hand, an imbalance in this chakra can have far-reaching consequences. Depletion of energy in the seventh chakra can result in feelings of depression and a lack of personal power. Excess energy at this chakra is said to express itself as a drive to collect material possessions or can result in episodes of manic behavior.
